What is the Competitive Canine Association? The Competitive Canine Association is a non-political organization that is based on the realistic evaluation of both a dog's natural and trained ability. History The Competitive Canine Association, LLC is an organization founded by a group of avid bird hunters that wanted to evaluate their dog's abilities compared to other dogs. They not only wanted to evaluate the dog's natural ability but also the dog's ability to obey fundamental commands which in their estimation was what a handler would desire in the field. After much debate they came to the conclusion that a good dog was simply one that could obey basic fundamental commands, find prey, whoa or sit on command, and retrieve harvested game. They also concluded that if two dogs had equal abilities then the dog that could perform the fastest was more desirable. In looking into existing "games" that might accomplish the goal of dog evaluation they found that there were two primary types of competitions that existed and neither addressed all of the desirable characteristics of a good hunting dog. Some evaluated a dog's abilities to a predetermined standard, but never really addressed speed, obedience, or put dog against dog to determine true superiority. Other games were team driven in which the handler and dog's abilities were both evaluated thus losing the dog's legitimacy. The group decided to create an association to address their goals with the belief that the majority of sporting dog owners would have these same goals. The Competitive Canine Association, LLC was founded under the premise that by helping handlers with training questions they could elevate their dog's abilities thus taking the dogs to their full potential. The association would then create a series of different competitive events to evaluate the dogs through direct competition once the training was complete. This goal will be accomplished by networking quality trainers with sporting dog owners in each geographic area involved with the association. The networking will be accomplished by scheduling training days at the very facilities that will host competitive events thus creating an initial comfort level for all parties involved. It is the association's opinion that this concept will help to create new competitors on an ongoing basis which will ultimately aid in the recognition of the top canine athletes and trainers nation wide. |
